The Houston Speedway was a popular racetrack located west of Main Street on Bellaire Blvd (Holcombe Blvd today) near Buffalo Speedway. The name changed to Bellaire Speedway in 1930. On occasions airplanes were pitted against racers on the long stretch section of track. The location also hosted balloon races. 1928
Bathing Beauty

The Sam Houston statue was a very popular location for commercial photographers to take photos for the local auto dealers. This bathing beauty queen added the right amount of sex appeal for this 1929 Nash ad. In the background is the Warwick hotel.
Sinclair Gas Station

This Sinclair station was located on the southwest corner of Main Street and University. I left the edges unretouched to illustrate the damage time does to our visual resources. In 1934 regular gas was only 6 cents a gallon.
