The Iceman was a daily visitor to most of the homes and businesses in Houston in 1928. Holding a 25 lb. block of ice Sam worked for Home Ice Company in Houston.
Rice Hotel Mezzanine

The mezzanine of the historic Rice hotel looking east down Texas avenue at the main street intersection on a mist Sunday morning. The Rice hotel was one of Jesse Jones first building ventures. Its location is where the first capital of the Republic of Texas stood.
Lou Forbes Metropolitan Band

Just one year after the great market crash heralding the beginning of the Great Depression Houston’s Chamber of Commerce and the Community Chest (United Way) set $514,000 as a fundraising goal. H. Saford of the Missouri Pacific Rail Lines and 500 volunteers set out to accomplish that goal. Pictured here is Lou Forbes the conductor of the Metropolitan theatre stage band kicking the drive off. The Community Chest was responsible for helping 32 different area agencies in Houston.
